Some studies suggest workers are more l gg ikely to be injured later during their shift. Solid waste drivers are reminded not to lose their focus on safety even after the route is finished. DO NOT GET COMPLACENT! There have been several tragic “end of the day” accidents this year.
For example, in Louisville, Kentucky, a 51 year-old helper had completed her route and had returned to her workplace. She got off of the back of the truck but was struck by the driver in the parking lot. It is unclear whether the driver was distracted or the helper’s actions contributed to the accident.
Safety for solid waste employers and employees is 365/24/7. Don’t let down your guard. It can have fatal consequences for you or your coworker.
